*Beijing, China – The 2025 World Robotics Conference became a stage for ABB Robotics to unveil its vision of AI-driven, user-friendly automation, designed to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Through intelligent, self-programming robots, ABB is breaking down barriers to industrial automation, making it simpler, faster, and more affordable.*
Zhang Jiafan, ABB Robotics China Research Lead, highlighted the transformative power of AI in robotics. "Gone are the days of rigid, single-task machines," he said. "Today’s robots learn, adapt, and multitask like never before. By merging AI vision, force control, and mobility, we’re entering an era where robots autonomously switch between welding, assembly, and logistics—no reprogramming needed."
This leap is particularly crucial for SMEs, which often lack resources for complex automation setups. ABB’s AI-based rapid task-learning slashes deployment time from days to minutes, enabling smaller factories to compete with industrial giants.
Han Chen, ABB Robotics China President, stressed the importance of localized R&D. "China’s manufacturing landscape is diverse, requiring tailored solutions," he explained. "Our Shanghai Mega Factory isn’t just a production site—it’s an innovation hub where we develop robots by Chinese engineers, for Chinese industries."
Key to this strategy is the PoWa collaborative robot, ABB’s newest cobot designed in China. At the expo, it demonstrated welding and precision pick-and-place, proving that collaborative robots can now match industrial arms in speed while ensuring human safety.
No-Code Robot Training
Using AI mimicry, ABB’s system watches a human polish a part, then instantly replicates .
This erases programming complexity, ideal for job shops and artisans transitioning to automation.
Energy-Efficient High-Speed Control
The OmniCore™ controller showcased three robots juggling glass cups at breakneck speeds—all while sipping 20% less power than previous models.
For factories facing energy costs, this is a game-changer.
Plug-and-Play Cobots
The PoWa series offers industrial performance in a safe, compact package, allowing seamless human-robot teamwork without safety cages.
China’s explosive growth in EVs, electronics, and logistics has made it the world’s #1 robotics adopter. Government policies like "Made in China 2025" further accelerate AI-robotics integration.
ABB’s answer? A 22-city service network ensuring SMEs get local support, from installation to maintenance. "Automation shouldn’t be a luxury," Zhang asserted. "With smarter, simpler robots, we’re putting it within reach of every workshop, everywhere."
As AI and 5G connectivity advance, ABB predicts fully autonomous factories within the decade. For now, its focus remains on democratizing robotics—one intuitive, self-teaching machine at a time.
"The future isn’t just automated," Han concluded. "It’s effortlessly adaptable. And that future starts in China."
